The Bushfire Model® is a physical model of a fireground used to share firefighting knowledge through training courses, demonstrations and tabletop exercises.
The model features a flexible landscape and elements including vehicles, fire appliances, fire shapes, aircraft, critical infrastructure, and other assets. It is used across Australia by career and volunteer firefighters, parks & wildlife, forestry and mining industry personnel.
The Bushfire Model® is a great communication tool for demonstrating and discussing fire behaviour and bushfire suppression. It is a registered design that works because firefighters are practical hands-on people.
The model's many features and applications are described on these pages and the Guide to Using the Bushfire Model
The model provides a valuable tool for experienced firefighters to share their knowledge with new firefighters and their communities.

This approach compliments established training courses and provides a means of providing performance evidence for practical components of online / eLearning.
The model suits a broad range of Language, Literacy and Numeracy abilities and successfully integrating visual, auditory and kinaesthetic (physical activity) learning styles.
The Bushfire Model® is used as part of emergency response training in the mining sector .
Instructors use the model to demonstrate fire behaviour and suppression strategies together with company specific standards.
The model's effectiveness in simulating fire scenarios and enhancing training has made it a valuable training resource.
Paul started as a volunteer firefighter in the 1980's. He has worked as a firefighter and trainer, delivering a range of bushfire and incident management training courses. Paul has been deployed to fires across Western Australia and interstate to New South Wales and Victoria.
Paul and his wife Lynette built the first Bushfire Model® in 2016 to help a firefighter share his knowledge with new brigade members. The success of the first run quickly led to requests for more models.
Each model is made by hand, an investment in time that maintains our aim of helping firefighters share their knowledge.
The ongoing feedback and support from firefighters across Australia is a huge part of the Bushfire Model’s success.
